The following guide will show you how to change your Nautilus file manager address bar from click-able breadcrumbs into an actual address bar displaying the full working path (similar to Windows or a web browser).
This guide should work for any of the following desktop environments and even possibly others that are using Nautilus as their file manager:
- Gnome Shell
Make Nautilus Address Bar Show Full Path As Text
To get a real address bar you only need to run this command, note that you do not need to run this as a sudo command because we are doing this for your account only and not the root account.
gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.preferences always-use-location-entry true
Revert Nautilus Address Bar To Click-able Breadcrumbs
If you would like to change it back to click-able breadcrumbs we will use the same command again but simply change true to false.
gsettings set org.gnome.nautilus.preferences always-use-location-entry false
