In this guide I will be showing you how to install the cinnamon desktop on Ubuntu as-well as the many derivatives. This guide should work on the following distributions although it may work on other Ubuntu based distributions as-well.
- Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu
- Linux Mint
- Elementary OS
If you are coming from a Windows desktop and want something familiar then Cinnamon desktop or KDE are more than likely your best option.
Install Cinnamon Desktop on Ubuntu
You can automatically install Cinnamon using the following apt-get commands. First run this command to add the repository or software source.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:embrosyn/cinnamon
Then update your available packages and install the Cinnamon desktop environment.
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install cinnamon -y
Thats all there is to it, now just logout and log back in using Cinnamon for your session.
Remove Cinnamon Desktop On Ubuntu
If you tried Cinnamon and decided you no longer wish to use it, then you can remove Cinnamon with the following command.
sudo apt-get remove cinnamon
